Legend Larry's is on fire!

Legend Larry's, which will celebrate it's 10th anniversary October 11, gained nationwide acclaim for the seventh consecutive year, by leaving its mark on the country's most recognized annual wing celebration. The National Buffalo Wing Festival, held over Labor Day weekend in Buffalo, NY, featured competition from several of the most prominent names in the industry. None of that has ever daunted Larry Schaefer, however, owner and founder of Legend Larry's, who took home first place awards in both the traditional hot and traditional medium categories. In fact, after seven years of success, 10 national first place awards and numerous others, Legend Larry's recipes have won more awards than any other vendor at the festival.

His success at the National Buffalo Wing Festival has not gone unnoticed and this year Legend Larry's was the official sauce of the 2011 U.S. Chicken Wing Eating Championship. The contest is an International Federation of Competitive Eating sanctioned event and features the biggest names in the world of competitive eating. This year Sonya, The Black Widow, Thomas defeated the competition by eating 4.63 lbs. of chicken, or roughly 183 wings in just 12 minutes and setting a new world record. Joey Chestnut, the highest ranked competitive eater, fell short, earning second place.

"It means a lot," said Schaefer. "Being from the Midwest, you don't have a huge wing industry, so to come here and be a part of something like this and win awards is just huge for us. It's like the Super Bowl of our year for us."

Legend Larry's was also named in the 2011 Inc. 5000 List of America's Fastest Growing Companies. The Inc. 5000 ranks the country's top 5000 fastest-growing, private companies. Businesses are ranked according to percentage revenue growth over a four year period. Legend Larry's was ranked as the 2,701 fastest growing private company.

Schaefer has always been adamant about the fact that the recognition he's received has helped his business thrive in Wisconsin. He has restaurants in both Sheboygan, WI and Manitowoc, WI, his son-in-law recently opened a location in Green Bay, WI and other establishments are now proudly serving his trademark wings around Wisconsin. Beginning with his first entry into the national competition, where Schaefer's recipes won both Best Traditional Hot Sauce and Best Traditional Medium Sauce, his wings have validated their place among the wing lovers' community.

Legend Larry's menu currently includes eleven different sauces, ranging on the heat scale from mild all the way up to D.O.A. (dead on arrival), and features several other household favorites, like hot garlic, honey barbecue and their newest, spicy bacon barbecue.
